Dreich

Dreich (Old Scots origin)
"A combination of dull, overcast, drizzly, cold, misty and miserable weather. At least 4 of the above adjectives must apply before the weather is truly dreich."

I love the word dreich and today I can truely say we have had at least 4 adjectives.

So returning home from work it's lamps on

cook a scrummy chilli con carne for tea
curl up in front of the fire and sip wine
thats the plan for tonight.

........and oh before I forget
our gorgeous pup now just over 5 months old
passed puppy class

have a lovely weekend  :-)

  5. Is dreich pronounced the same as "like." I like dreich weather, maybe make it a little warmer though.

I don't know why but I find it interesting that people eat chili in Scotland. And I guess you spell it "chilli." I'm having colcannon. Not really.

  11. Our weather has not be dreich, but we had a couple of windy and chilly days over the weekend. We got spoiled having a spectacular summer that continued until last week.

What is the origin of dreich? Our friends from Cornwall taught us the term "a nazmuth of scud". Don't know if I am spelling it right, but in winter we definitely have days with a nazmuth of scud and some with more than a nazmuth.

    1. Lucky you getting spoiled with a spectacular summer !
I believe the word dreich is an old middle english word, that was used in the english and scots language but now only remains in the scottish dictionary.Never heard of "a nazmuth of scud" till now. Will try it out on a few folks and see what reaction I get :-)
